Album Review: House Vs. Hurricane - Crooked Teeth

House Vs. Hurricane have had a busy career as a young Australian band, last year the band went through a lineup change with Dan Dicker leaving the band, in result House Vs. Hurricane recruited friend/vocalist Dan Casey from fellow band Nazarite Vow (also know as Louis Blanc) the band wrote their sophomore album Crooked Teeth late 2011, with the band traveling to New Jersey to record with Machine at The Machine Shop, due out on 13th of July on UNFD (We Are Unified)

With earlier material the group were more post-hardcore/ambient but this time around the band has gone for more hardcore elements yet still keeping those elements of their previous material in the mix, the addition of Dan Casey has added more of a gritty feel to this release.

Crooked Teeth is a entirely different release to their previous 2010 debut album Perspectives, change of material and lineup, Dan Casey’s vocals are more gritty and rough compared to previous vocalist Chris Dicker, they’re a close compasion to each other. The melodic areas of Crooked Teeth are more than enjoyable, gives a new feeling to the old HVH material for this scene.

Guitarist/Vocalist Ryan is at the top of his ability during Crooked Teeth, he has many moments to shine and it’s incredible to hear his voice evolve so much since Perspectives, that guitars from Ryan & Chris are very crisp and clear, you can hear every single detail in the record, bassist Dylan & drummer Sam are at the top of their performance.

The songs are amazing, there are moments where you can get lost in the chaos of these tracks but that’s a good thing, these songs are some of the best they’ve written, i’m a huge fan of their previous releases but this album takes the cake as something new for House Vs. Hurricane to experiment with.

House Vs. Hurricane have worked very hard of this release, through the departure of 2 members and the recruitment of new vocalist, the band doesn’t seem to be stopping, HVH is one of the hardest working Australian bands in this scene next to other fellow band like Parkway Drive, Dream On Dreamer & The Amity Affliction, Crooked Teeth is a big step up from their other material but it’s a welcomed addition to their career.
