Album Review: Glass Cloud - The Royal Thousand
Jerry Roush has been causing quite a storm since his departure from Sky Eats Airplane in 2009 and has since been a fill in for Of Mice & Men, while still searching for a new band to call his own, Jerry asked Joshua Travis (The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza), bassist Travis Sykes and drummer Chad Hasty to join and help create Glass Cloud, their debut album The Royal Thousand due out July 10th via Equal Vision Records.
The Royal Thousand is the first release for Glass Cloud on the Equal Vision Records roster, it definaitly makes it’s mark, this is a heavy experimental album, Jerry Roush has spent many months making this band possible, and it was well worth the wait.
When the first song was release ‘White Flag’ It was just an instant favorite, one of the best songs on the album, it was the best way to showcase the band with their material and writing style, the album is pretty heavy but with those melodic soft parts that Jerry is known for.
The Royal Thousand offers some interesting instrumentals with the aid of guitarist Joshua Travis, drummer Chad Hasty & bassist Travis Sykes, Jerry gathered some of the most musically focused musicians i’ve heard, Joshua’s unique skills were so vast being more technical and chaotic throughout the album it was a one of my favorite qualities of the album, Chad’s drumming was quite unusal such as in the beginning of their track Falling In Style which many different procussions being used was weird to hear but it worked so well with the song.
Jerry’s vocals have vastly improved since his Sky Eats Airplane days, his cleans are so much clearer without fail, his screaming ability also grew with him and having that powerful screaming with those clean heavenly parts really puts more into the album, he can really belt out notes and keep his voice in the best shape, a lot of energy was put into this album and you can tell through his lyrics and vocals.
Glass Cloud have put out an experimental album, it’s a great debut for the band to show who they are, and what they sound like, I personally loved this album, the intense passion and the music is just pure crazy, just the way I like it. I can’t wait to hear more from the band in their next release on Equal Vision Records.
