Album Review: Buried In Verona - Notorious
Hailing from Sydney, Australia comes Buried In Verona, one of Australia’s treasures just like Dream On Dreamer, House vs. Hurricane, The Amity Affliction & Parkway Drive just to name a few.
Notorious was produced/recorded by Fredrick Nordström at Studio Fredman in Sweden earlier this year, the band set out a release to their 2010 album Saturday Night Sever.
Notorious is an aggressive album, from the amount of hatred in the first track Maybe Next Time or the party hard abusive Couldn’t Give 34 Fucks, this album comes with a mighty amount of aggression and energy. The meaning behind these 12 tracks shows the passion and insight this band possesses from the things they’ve been through as a band, Notorious will be known as the album that made Buried In Verona a band to be messed with in the Australian music scene.
The songs on Notorious are strong, heavy & lyrical, you can listen to the lyrics and know exactly how the vocalist feels and what could of influenced them to write those lyrics, some of them are pointed at those who tried to ruin their band, personal stories of friends passing away, after reading the meaning behind these songs, i could tell this band had been through so much since they started Buried In Verona, this is one of my favorite things about the release, it’s lyrical content is spot on and I can understand it all.
Buried In Verona’s style is more aggressive metalcore with a bit of electronica here and there, lead vocalist Brett Anderson has a lot of pure anger with his vocals, at times it can be low growls to his screaming yelling (e.g Sam Carter of Architects) there is a sensitive side to their music with clean singer Richie Newman blowing away with his amazing vocals to blend in well with Brett’s powerful lyrics and strong backbone.
Buried In Verona have released an amazing album for their first record release by UNFD (We Are Unified Australia) I see a very bright future in sight for BIV, it’s a slightly diverse album, it’s enjoyable to hear them not care or give a fuck about how they’re music is received, they’re a band doing what they can to survive in this scene and make a mark in their musical career.
The band recently signed a deal with The Artery Foundation along with fellow Australian’s Dream On, Dreamer & The Amity Affliction, so this means some more overseas exposure for the band that they truly deserve.
