Album Review: Silverstein - Short Songs
Hopeless Records band Silverstein has released their 22 track, 2CD album Short Songs. 11 original songs & 11 cover songs.
All the songs on Short Songs are all under 90 seconds which is something very new and creative from the band’s 11 year career, Silverstein wanted to show where their roots came from and they have delivered with this massive album, the first 11 tracks are all written by Silverstein are some of their best short material, with a short time length comes great results and i believe this paid off well for Silverstein and each song is some of the best stuff they’ve written, maybe an exception for the last track…See Ya Bill, it was hilarious to put in a VERY short song into the mix only lasting 7 seconds.
Each of the original songs are good lengths not to annoy or bore listeners, but it may bug long time fans wanting more than just 90 seconds, in my first listen it was quick to miss parts of songs but every play through I heard more and more each time, something new, something unexpected that I missed beforehand. I throughly enjoyed the original tracks, not all heavy but all very punk/rock style easy listening tunes, you can really tell how passionate they are in their music even with a short time length.
The other 11 tracks of the album are their representation of their roots, what they listened to and inspired them to start Silverstein, the 11 tracks are all cover songs from bands such as Green Day, NOFX & more. These tracks are well done from Silverstein since they’ve been doing covers in many of their releases and compilations they’ve been featured on, if you’re a fan of their covers then you’ll be please with what they’ve done to these songs, it really shows how much songs can changed with a Silverstein sound thrown it.
Short Songs is a well done release, i’ve been a fan of Silverstein since Discovering The Waterfront so I’m happy to say that this is one of their most impressive and creative releases thus far.
